The pa45/7.36 crackles even more than pa44/7.35 with thesycon 2.20.No problems with M2Tech Young (and Amanero).So the problem is driver related.

As has often been the case.
There have been quite number of releases that act differently on Thesycon drivers than on Amanero.

JCAT USB;Sonicweld DiverterHR2;Naim DC1;Chord Hugo;Morrow Audio MA6;Naim NAC-282,SuperCapDR;NAP-300;

Indeed. This is why jplay has parameters to allow set up for specific drivers.

if only I had a thesycon device, once upon a time I didn't have a 24 bit device.

I deleted a load of timer related code, maybe the devices use that, shall add it back in as pa45 sounds a bit too free.

7.36+v45 both SSE and AVX2 on ivy bridge sound great with some music. Bass on jazz (double bass) has a fabulous woody colouration. Great too on modern dry recordings. On music with slightly bloated bass the effect isn't so great.

No crackles with the Young driver (Octave mkII).

I can't speak for those with crackles but v47 has lost much of the loose bass on my system. Much moire balanced.

I'd say the bass is about right, could be a trace shy or right. Either way it's tight and there's no masking of the mid and treble now so clarity is good.
