I have no problem to understand that...but to call 5.14 flat and uninspiring is very heavy clarification, IMO.
So quite a few of us who've been listening this version for a while and enjoying red-book like never before, have some issues with our ears, or our equipment is capable of making it up to sound so good?
The differences are so small at this point, and we all may aim here or there easily, but we need to be more respectful and to be able to understand it.
I personally never called 5.14 to be absolute reference, it was always my reference, and I consider it to be somehow contribution to this very enjoyable journey called MQn!

BTW, V7.18 avx2/pa v33 avx2 wins here so far, if we talk about KS.

George, think you got me wrong. I only wanted to confirm that I also think that there's no thing like ONE reference version (for all). Was not meant as judgement about version 5.14 (tried to make that clear by erasing the rest of 3daudio's statement). Though 5.14 is not my personal reference, I really can believe that it is for others or that it might be mine as soon as I change something in my chain.

Tested on Server 2012 R2 with AudioPhil's Optimizer
Mqncontrol 3.64, portaudio 36 and 37, mqnplay 1644 7.18 wdmks sse2 and 7.22
GUI: ok GUI full AO optimized: ok
Minimal server: ok Minimal server full AO optimized: ok
Core full AO optimized: not working

Mqnplay 1644 7.33 sse2 not playing on my setup.
@Gordon: Any reason for "wdmks" missing in the file name?

MQnplay 7.18 is my favorite so far. Portaudio V37 is a step forward regarding transparency and details in my system.

Wow ;)

SSE and AVX may be labelled the wrong way around.

Gordon announced to integrate portaudio code into mqnplay. So seems that there's no need to deal with different portaudio versions in the near future.
Christoph
Yes, I understand and I appreciate your thinking on that, as I appreciate MQNload, which has been very useful so far, and saves us all a lot of time while testing. Thank you for that.

And of course it's not such a hassle either to rename Portaudio files to switch back and forth. I guess I've just been spoilt and turned lazy. :-)

The main changes seem to be happening in PA versions these past few days, so maybe Gordon could give an inkling on the timeframe of the announced abolishment of PA. If it's not going to be soon, it might be worth an upgraded MQNload after all.

Anyway, again huge appreciations for MQNload, as I've been using it from the very beginning. Well done!

after 2 days of listening to 6.18 (5.14 equivalent), i seem to have got bored of it. not sure why yet
can imagine why 5.14 can sound flat.

back to 7.16... even though it lacks bass or treble biased, it is so easy-going for the ears, has great energy, so casual in style, very enjoyable.

7.16's vocal is very good. it is not typical mqn style. it has true potential. need more bass to make it sound "expensive" or "hifi".

v37 is better again.
works well with 7.18, 7.16

-----
7.33 sse doesn't make sound here. stuck.
