So I gather, and to hear him conduct I thought it might have been Gustav Mahler, but to be honest one could never discern his having a preference, he was so professional in everything he did.

He did say that Mozart was his favorite, and not surprisingly, Verdi was his second.

I also listened to some Beethoven this evening Seán. For me it was a recent purchase of Symphony No. 3 played by the wonderful Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam under Pierre Monteux. It was a wonderful performance that was full of power and drive.

Verdi: Rigoletto Callas/Gobbi/Stefano/Orchestra e coro del Teatro della Scala/Serafin [EMI]
Listened to this twice tonight. Ahh such amazing voices. I so much enjoy Verdi and feel like it there are so many treasures to discover. Are there other Rigolettos that you all enjoy and can recommend?

Those are wonderful. I am a bit biased towards Haskil's recordings though. You make me want to go and dig up the sonatas. For some reason I tend to listen to LvB's cello sonatas much more often than the violin sonatas....
