Time for a new Rite of Spring recording. Pleasingly savage, this:

Yep, Solti's recording with the CSO is a splendid Rite.

This is the third volume of Haydn symphonies with Bruno Weil and the excellent Cappella Coloniensis, superbly played and recorded they are certainly recommendable. It´s good to see the Cappella Coloniensis is still going strong. I´m not sure when it was founded, but I have recordings that date back to the 60´s. Anyhow, really excellent, stylish performances.

Dear Pepe, I am ashamed to say that I have never heard any of their recordings.

That´s strange Seán, since they have recorded plenty in the past 5 decades. Notable conductors like William Christie have recorded with them (Hasse´s Cleofide), and they made pioneer recordings of many works (the first EVER recordings of Rossini´s operas with period instruments: Tancredi, Cenerentola and L´ Italiana in Algeri). Of course they play much better now than in the 60´s, but it´s good to see that they are still going strong.

The final 2 CDs of this series are under way.

A great series of fine Schubert Lieder.
