Leonard Bernstein conducts the VPO through the final movement of Haydn's gorgeous 88th Symphony using facial expressions, and puffs out his chest to set the beat, it's worth watching:

Maestro Carlos Kleiber: what an extraordinary conductor he was, his baton is like a magic wand in his hand; we listen spellbound to the orchestra who perform heroically for us, this is a treat:

Two wonderful performances here of the transcendental Chaconne from Bach's Partita No.2, the first played straight by the Canadian violinist James Ehnes, the second in Busoni's arrangement for piano by French pianist Hélène Grimaud.

While driving around the Dordogne area in France recently, listening to a marvellous classical station in our rental car, I found myself absolutely transfixed by the Busoni arrangement played by Pletnev. I wasn't familiar with this arrangement before, but my goodness it's a real tour de force. Gorgeous.

Lovely clips Paul, thanks for posting them.
I LOVE this clip and I couldn't help thinking of Fergus when I watched it, it was posted on Facebook by the Irish Baroque Orchestra.

Cheers Seán. Yes I have long been an admirer of Huggett's relaxed and unobtrusive style of performing.

An exceptionally powerful version of one of Beethoven's greatest masterpieces. Criticised by some at the time of its release for taking liberties with the score and taking an overtly visceral approach to the music but this is nonsense. It is impossible to push this music too far and this is genuinely great playing which simply presents this deeply spiritual music in the most direct way conceivable.
