Schumann - Cello Concerto (Maria Kliegel/Andrew Constantine, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Naxos)
How did you like that one Darren? The Schumann in particular would interest me.bombasticDarren wrote:Schumann - Cello Concerto (Maria Kliegel/Andrew Constantine, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Naxos)
That is a very fine set as I recall Seán.Seán wrote:
You will be surprised how enjoyable it is Fergus, just like with the great Wilhelm Stenhammar, I´m puzzled why Börresen isn´t more popular and well known.fergus wrote:As I love the music of Sibelius I look at that one with interest Pepe....Jose Echenique wrote:
Hakon Börresen was the OTHER great early 20th Century Danish composer after Nielsen. He was more of a late Romantic than Nielsen, but none the worse for that. His music is beautifully crafted and immediately appealing. In fact if you love Sibelius and Stenhammar there´s no reason why you shouldn´t enjoy these big, nordic, luscious symphonies.
I much prefer this German recording to the Danish version in Da Capo, it´s better played and recorded.
Now that does definitely interest me and it shouldn't: I'm not in the market for CDs but I can make the odd exception, I suppose.Jose Echenique wrote:You will be surprised how enjoyable it is Fergus, just like with the great Wilhelm Stenhammar, I´m puzzled why Börresen isn´t more popular and well known.fergus wrote:As I love the music of Sibelius I look at that one with interest Pepe....Jose Echenique wrote:Hakon Börresen was the OTHER great early 20th Century Danish composer after Nielsen. It is a nice recording Fergus. It is well played and well recorded. I really like the third movement of Schumann's Cello Concerto. Very special movement. The Brahms double concerto is splendid in my opinion. It deserves more love, that is for sure.fergus wrote:How did you like that one Darren? Wow! Here is a composer that I have never heard of. It looks very interesting. I will definitively give him a try.Jose Echenique wrote:You will be surprised how enjoyable it is Fergus, just like with the great Wilhelm Stenhammar, I´m puzzled why Börresen isn´t more popular and well known.fergus wrote:As I love the music of Sibelius I look at that one with interest Pepe....Jose Echenique wrote:
