Initially I found Lucinda's voice a little hard to take but at this stage I think I have nearly everything she's recorded. This is a real gem, a eulogy to to her recently deceased father and also a celebration of life.
The edgy twin guitar interplay is spread across the channels with Bill Frisell on the right and Greg Leisz on the left... thanks fully somebody hid Frisell's swell pedal so he has to resort to actually playing the guitar which he can do when pressed. The album is over four sides and the sonics benefit.

A classic from 1972. A deliberate attempt to bring old and new country/bluegrass/Appalachian musicians together by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. It remains both an essential and hugely enjoyable album. On 2 CD set.

This guy has a new album out very soon - it may even be tomorrow, his second I think (if I understand correctly). All the right people have been name checking him for a while. I can kinda see why.

I've been listening to this for a couple of weeks now and it just gets better and better... the starts out like pure shit-kickin' country but with a dark twist and then goes off down some avenues you just don't expect... ok, strings are not uncommon but when the track suddenly get funked up by The Dap Tone Horn section (DapTone records house band - Sharon Jones, and Amy Winehouse's 2nd LP and many others) it's unexpected and just sound "right".
The 180gm vinyl comes with a full quality CD copy.
