My first listen to a Tim Buckley record and I thought it was a cracking album. Great vocals and lyrics and I particulary loved the arrangments on many of the tracks.

After watching the wonderful Francesca Schiavone win at Roland Garros, I put on my favourite Joni Mitchell album, Hejira. Great songs - Coyote, Amelia, Furry Sings The Blues, Song For Sharon, Refuge Of The Roads and the classic title track - and wonderful contributions from Jaco Pastorius who was always so much better as an accompanist than a soloist.
And then I played something I haven't listened to in a long time - Jethro Tull's A Passion Play. I don't listen to too much prog these days but Tull had so much more charm and wit than their contemporaries. This is one of their best - and certainly their most under-appreciated - albums and, as a continual 40-minute statement, is more successful than Thick As A Brick. What a pity that Ian Anderson didn't continue to play the soprano and sopranino saxes - they certainly added something special to the group sound.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the album, Dave. My personal favourites are Make It Right, Sweet Surremder and Move With Me, but it's all one long groove. Very different vibe from Lorca and Starsailor but Buckley made it work.

Overall not quite as good as 'Live and Dangerous' but there is more of a live and raw feel to this album as it has no edits or overdubs. If you're a big Lizzy fan it's definitely worth the purchase otherwise stick with Live and Dangerous.

Another epic offering from the Stones. I've never had the chance to listen to the full recording from beginning to end until now. Absolute tip top sound quality from ABKCO too. What a shame that the muppets at Universal couldnt do the same for 'Exile..'.

Both excerpts from 'Over'....surely the most honest appraisal of a relationship break down ever.
Good man, Dermot, flying the flag for Hammill. A true living legend and three great albums you have there. That Van der Graaf Generator album is a classic - the savage Killer, the bereft House With No Door and the intense Lost. Some superb organ/sax workouts there as well.

Thanks Paul. I laughed at this little snippet about 'He To He Who Am The Only One' :"Their third album is the sound of two jazz freaks,a former Soul boy and an ex-church organist let off the leash, grappling with sc-fi,lost love, death, tyranny and alienation. It was said that the track Killer made their manager's Sussex home 'wobble'" (MB)

Had a listen to the second of Drake's albums this morning. I liked it but it didnt quite make the impression on me that Five Leaves Left did but I'll come back to it a few more times. I was in Freebird yesterday and asked the guy if it was possible to order FLL on vinyl. He said it was near impossible to source at the moment which was a shame as he reckoned he'd be able to sell at least 20-30 copies a week.

I had a listen to this late last night. Wow..after listening to Greetings from LA earlier, nothing prepared me for what I heard on this album. I was both baffled and intrigued at the same time. This will take a few more listens before I make up my mind about it.
