On 4.08 avx I got an exception code 0x0000005 for Access Violation.
The fault offset was 0x000000000000013bb.

Might that help locate the error?
I'm sure it is a program error.

Cheers

EDIT
i did suspect AVX version makes stack&heap corruption. so got blacklisted by windows. (got blacklisted by the CPU itself?!?!)
but then i reinstalled windows, still not work. so weird.

Something practical:

Yesterday I wanted to have a listen to version 3.97, but couldn't find it in the archive. Aleg said it should be there, so I checked again, but no luck. I left it at that, but now I had the same with version 4.08. It seems the newest version in the archive for me is one of June 4th.

I did notice however that there are exactly 500 items in the folder, so I googled that and lo and behold:

It seems I'm the only one here affected by it, but I wonder, Gordon, if it would be possible to cull some items or maybe better, split the archive into a real "archive" (say anything before 2014) and another folder with more recent "cast-aways"?

Thanks!

Did some more testing yesterday night, without having had access to 3.97, up until version 4.05.

4.05 avx didn't work on Minimal Server R2 with AO 1.24 either for me.

To spare you all my tendency to elaborate :-) without further ado my ranking for some of the "milestones":

3.14 avx >> 4.04 > 4.05 >> 3.75 > 4.00 > 3.92 > 3.83

4.04 and 4.05 are very close, with an ever so slight preference for the former. Both work well with control 2.97 too, and I even have a slight preference compared to control 3.61 512 with these.

Did a little more testing then with control versions on my favourite 3.14 with the following result:

2.97 > 1024 > 512 >> 3.61

Now really looking forward to a recent avx version working on my system, and seeing if it will finally be able to beat 3.14 :-)

I've just checked
Don't seem to have too much trouble finding those files
However I do find it a strong advantage room be signed into goggle and "view in my drive" just because the layout is better
I would find it extremely difficult to find older stuff when not signed in

None of the latest avx's working for me. Looks like all is well but no sound. sse's working fine.
4.09 sounds great but being honest 3.14avx upwards any of the good ones work fine for me. It is a case of listening for long enough to decide if the avx's are just to detailed for long term listening. Unfortunately not enough time to do this.

It might look as all is well, but if you look in Windows Event Viewer under Applications, you will see that mqnplay.exe has crashed with Exception code 0xc0000005, often meaning it tried to access/alter memory that isn't in use by mqnplay but belongs to some other program.
