A less common Debussy cd set
Lovely it is though (but needed to get used to the different instruments used)
Cheers

Hi Aleg, I love Debussy's piano works. What 'different instruments' are you referring to here?

He used different piano's on different CD's:
- a Bechstein from 1897
- a Blüthner from 1902
- a modern Steinway
And they do sound distinctly different.
Cheers

I presume because you had to adjust to the different sounds Aleg that your preference would be for the Steinway?

Yes, you guessed it right, you're through to next round LOL.
Am I so transparent? ;-).
Yes, I prefer the modern instruments (not just the Steinway, other brands as well) I like the rich full-bodied sound with the long decay of the notes, the ones that can really SING, from top to bottom, with nice deep bass vibrations.
The others are not that bad, just not as beautiful and when changing CD's it can sort of catch you 'off guard'.
Cheers

Not at all Aleg LOL! It is just that if one continually listens to music played on a particular instrument I find that when the listener hears that familiar music played on a different instrument the senses are jarred by the different, unfamiliar tones and textures of the unfamiliar instrument just as you described; the listener generally listens to the music and not to the instrument that it is played on.
