pkshan has buffer=640=14.5ms using timer resoluion=0.5ms on his audiofire.Aleg wrote:jesuscheung wrote:there is no restriction. pick any buffer you like is divisible by 0.5, 1, or/and 2ms.Aleg wrote:I can confirm JC's buffer/timerresolution combination is very good.
Buffer of 8 ms and timerresolution of 20000 (actual 20001) is a very relaxed beautifull and natural sound with a lot of warmth, detail and air.
BTW my registry clockrate is 464400. MQn version is 2.70

i choose 8ms (actually is 0.798...) because in ASIO4ALL the best selectable buffer is 352.
for example, there is no 441 to select in ASIO4ALL. 441/44100 would have rounded to perfect 10ms.
I wil certainly experiment some more, but not all sound equal.
E.g. 1 ms buffer and 10000 timerresolution sounds more strained.
Of course a myriad of combinations is possible this way, but I do like your combination.

jesuscheung wrote:if anyone needs to 'measure' how optimized their OS is, download "DPC Latency Checker".
my R1 and R2 latencies are both:
1 to 2us.
average 1us when playing MQn. some random spikes to 6-7us.
don't agree. when i didn't disable dynamic tick, the treble was horrible, dpc correctly reports 1000us. before optimization, my latency was about 50. after optimization, my latency is 1us. how is this incorrect?Aleg wrote:jesuscheung wrote:if anyone needs to 'measure' how optimized their OS is, download "DPC Latency Checker".

AFAIK dpc latency checker doesn't report proper values from Win8 onwards.
Still has to be fixed.
Only LatencyMon from Resplendence.com is suitable for win8 onwards

alright, right now, listening to MQn, using chrome, LatencyMon reports average of 5-10us and peaks at 84us. is this good?
you right, LatencyMon is more accurate.
Where could I download his DAW 1.1? Thanks.jesuscheung wrote:XA has updated Windows7 DAW 1.1. i have just installed it. previous version 1.0 was giving me a lot of earaches. this version is absolutely beautiful. my optimized R2 is far from that level of SQ. all players lekt, MQn, XA sound wondering.
this OS is weird. takes time to 'burn-in'. think it is because VS2013 installs .net that runs '.NET optimization services" in the background for hours until it finishes on my i7. this is OS is so easy to tweak, just do whatever he says on his blog, SQ will increase. just don't do his Aero optimization and don't install any graphic driver.
i have my own tweaks to apply on this 7, but i am afraid i would ruin the sound. need to ghost it.
