this album is simply beautiful, but Media vita is absolutely mesmerising in its beauty. If anyone asked me to play them some Renaissance music to see whether they liked it, then that would be one piece I'd choose.

I over Tchaikovskyed in a big way in my late teens and early twenties Darren to such an extent that I have paid scant regard to him in later years. Perhaps it is time to rectify that in 2012!

I rally like the sound of the viola, even as a concertante instrument. I was listening only very recently to the great Harold in Italy by Berlioz.

That Walton conducts Walton disc is a great starting point for anyone with an interest in Walton.
'Harold in Italy' is a very fine piece, especially in this recording:-

Media vita's soprano harmonies will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when they scale the top notes Fergus... and it lasts for 22 minutes..
