It's so long since I listened to proper* music that I'd almost forgotten how much I love it. This is good. I'm a big fan of Vox Luminis.

I bought this CD for £3 in a charity shop. Quite strange. They take bits of Ravel recordings by Von Karajan and use them as the basis of a techno record. Can ocassionally just about hear faint references to the original music.

JS Bach: Mass in B minor

I recently engaged in a listening project of the following versions of the JS Bach Mass in B minor in my collection [listed by conductor in alphabetical order]:

Bruggen - Glossa [CD]
Fasolis - Brilliant [CD]
Gardiner - Archiv [CD]
Gardiner - SDG [CD]
Harnoncourt: Telefunken/Das Alte Werk [LP]
Hengelbrock - [DHM] CD
Herreweghe - Virgin [CD]
Jochum - EMI [CD]
Parrott: EMI [LP]
Suzuki - BIS [CD]
Van Veldhoven - Channel [CD]

This is such a magnificent work! Cantatas on steroids here!!

Górecki's Symphony No. 3 is such a wonderful, emotionally engaging work.
