But that is still HUGE.

I think it should be closer to 36 mB! And that would be twice as much stuff as a minimized XP.

Like I said, it would be interesting to hear if it makes any difference.

Like bracketing with artillery - we know what it sounds like with a full install - wish we could hear a minimal install and then we could work our way back from there to find optimum if minimal is not optimal.
yes it does. i stripped my OS before it is installed. it sounds little better than stripping a installed OS.
because files are better aligned. more compact.
stripping an installed OS makes sparse space. defrag won't recover the loss of SQ. interesting, right?

I bet even in SAFE MODE there is plenty of stuff you cannot delete or you think you have deleted it only to find it somewhere else.

I have found the SEARCH function in SERVER to be in cahoots with RESOURCE PROTECTION, too. You cannot rely on it to "find" all of the folders a file is residing.
that's because you are using windows explorer. you should learn to use command prompt. there is nothing you cannot see.

---TWEAK 66-----
MOUSE
(affects naturalness of sound and also resolution)

1. Enhance pointer precision
enable > disable

2. Pointer speed
default seems best

3. Scheme
None = best

4. Enable pointer shadow
disable > enable

5. Mouse DPI sensitivity
1000 = great (found in logitech mouse control panel)
800, 900 = not good.
500 maybe better (but mouse too slow)

6. Mouse Report Rate
125 per seconds = great (found in logitech mouse control panel)

7. mouse acceleration level
default seems best.

experiment reducing acceleration to 0:
http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.hk/2010 ... n-fix.html
lost resolution...

----TWEAK 67----
CrystalDiskInfo
idea came from pkshan's blog

1. go to:
Image

disable AAM and/or APM.

2. Don't touch all other advance features, SQ may decrease.

NOTE:
intel_rapid_storage_technology_13_0_1_1000 is out.
better than all previous drivers.

after installing the driver, you might have to re-disable AAM//APM.

service differences between win7 and win8/8.1/2012

in win7, these are default to manual startup
Browser
SCardSvr
upnphost

in win8 onwards, they are disabled by default.

tried changing them back to manual. timing loosened.
if your setup lacks resolution, this will fake some more.
if your setup has a lot of resolution, this will make strain.

so, should keep them disabled.

----TWEAK 68---- (EXPERIMENT)

started messing around the new win8.1.
puzzled why certain micro-details is better than R2

here is one reason:

for 2012/R2 GUI MODE

download
Image

enable opaque.

i can only guess if taskbar is opaque it is offloaded to hardware GPU rendered.
otherwise, it is CPU-rendered.

SQ timing is tightened a little. maybe intense

JC, do you have a copy of your Adobe Flash mod still available, or an update? I lost it and it doesn't look like it's available in your Google Drive anymore... Thanks.

1. download flash (Plugin-based browsers section)
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplay ... tion3.html
2. install flash
3. replace file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\

changed link version from 09 to 0A. that's it.
not tested it. seems ok. use at your own risk ! hehe

youtube is forcing use of html5 nowadays

in my chrome, html5 sounds like sh*t

try this extension
Magic Actions for YouTube™ 6.7.4
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... pllmpfceif

go to option:
uncheck all boxes
except for
"Force Player Type"
and select "flash"

now youtube sounds better with flash
