Clive, yes it's Adam. I have windows 8.1 pro. SSE2 works every time for me but have not heard anything with avx yet, but you say it should work. Not sure what else to do at this point. One thing I've noticed is when the avx version starts the hourglass cursor appears for a split second, then the process proceeds with no sound. This is caused by an Access Violation error.
Follow my instructions here to set the security policy right: viewtopic.php?p=55670#p55670

Should work in most situations for Windows 8.1 Pro
