I'll experiment more with the settings and also with TC again. I did use it, but it was a pain in the ass when I was having stability issues and needed to figure out networking etc.
During tonights listening, I had a moment during playback where the audioPC hung - dunno what was the cause, but a restart and away she went no problem again for the rest of the evening (all on US with buffer at 200).
Realistically, I'd need to go single PC playback to get latency down that low, and probably would also need to shut down some stuff too. Dunno if I can face it!! I value the stability - sometimes you just want to come in , turn on the music and not wonder if its going to play! Its all good to be on the edge of developments, but its nice to crawl back a bit from there too to the stable zone!!
One thing anyway, the dynamics and realism are fairly extraordinary with the new release. I actually think there's been a bit of a jump even from the RCs.

i dont mind pushing latency as far to the edge as im bothered too, but when i get there ill be taken a few steps back to gain flawless stability. at some stage ill just want to walk in the room take my phone out and play the music. i feel thats very close.
ill probably stick with single pc so i dont have two pcs running the whole time, unless a large gap comes between them again

I understand DriveBuffer is for those who use Foobar,Qoboz and Jriver in conjunction with Jplay in order for the two programs to synchronize so for UltraStream with Foobar ,for example, requires high UltraSize values if Drive Buffer is used.

Many thanks Ken - I missed that nugget of info.
I've been messing with the latency checker. The same as nige - I get svchost as the worst for pagefile faults. It gives me the greenlight until I start up a few windows in chrome, that puts it under pressure!
But even at that I get no dropouts. Mind you, I have disabled the pagefile on both PCs and also adjusted for best services running in the background and also adjusted graphics for best performance.
Sound is only great though. So immediate and snappy, dynamic without being too brash or hard.
Quite the piece of kit

Fran, I run Win8 performance monitor while I'm running Jplay to try to get some feel for what's going on. It helped me track down what was stopping my US feed - screen dimming/closing/
Anyway, I noticed that if CPU usage goes over about 50% US stops or doesn't start in the first place (there's an intiial CPU usage blip when US is started). This was the case with my netbook, anyway - I need to test the NUC in standalone mode tomorrow.
What are others finding when looking at Performance Monito - what CPU usage works?

my spike goes to 90% on both the i3 and i7 when ultrastream started, it definitely only uses one core as i seen on the latencymon test.
i think ultrastream tries to startup as fast as possible and fully utilises one core to start asap
tried streaming 2pc last night i couldnt beat my standalone figures and had a little less ultrasize, looks like both need to be fully optimised to get to the little figures.
also noted that running the mini player an no web browser had a very small improvement

Came across an interesting review of Jplay on a Mac here
http://www.audiostream.com/content/road-jplay
Also interesting are the posted comments after the review - represent both viewpoints.
Excerpt "Audirvana Plus and Pure Music did not measure up to what I heard with JPlay. JPlay just stole the show from these two programs."

did disabling the pagefile do anything for me?
for me it made no difference
good that your liking the sound
on single pc at default regedit settings i wasnt finding much between ultrastream and xtream, it was taking the lower us to pull away from xtream.

Well good to see James and some of the guys from HiFiWigwam dropped by the room with the JPlay setup in the Munich Show, and had what I term to be very good feedback on a JPlay setup for guys who are Vinyl nuts through and through.
Their comments are near the end of the following Blog.
http://www.hifiwigwam.com/munich-high-e ... live-blog/
"Lcr phono stage. Turntable v jplay pc play back demo in progress. They are telling us jplay is as good if not better than the awesome vinyl set up they have. There’s very little difference, which is a compliment to the digital set up. But I preferred the vinyl set up.
Impressive demo to be fair."

wonder what sort of pc and dac it was and how good the turntable setup was
theres alot of variables as we know from our build dedicated pc thread
but overall its a good result

I don't get what the CD player called "Jason" has to do with Jplay though - any idea?
