Bohuslav Martinu
Symphony No. 3 & 4
Bamberg Symphony Orchestra
Neeme Jarvi conducting.
Hugely enjoyable. I am particularly fond of the Fourth Symphony.
That is a possibility Seán. I listen to so little Prokofiev that I only have his symphonies Nos. 1 & 5 in my collection! As you know I am always willing to give music a chance so that may well be a good investment. Do you have that cycle? Perhaps there is a "better" cycle that I should investigate first?Seán wrote:They are a fabulous orchestra, I am really glad you like it Fergus; now you might want to consider getting their Prokofiev Symphony cycle with Kitajenko too, or perhaps not?fergus wrote:
I have not listened to that set in quite a while. I always found the later symphonies to a bit inaccessible however.Seán wrote:

Delighted to hear it.fergus wrote:Shostakovich: String Quartets 11, 12 & 13....
This set just gets better and better!
I do have the Kitajenko/Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne Prokofiev cycle Fergus and I really like it. I also have a few recordings of Prokofiev's music performed by the LSO under the direction of Previn and they are marvellous too.fergus wrote:That is a possibility Seán. That does interest me, thanks Pepe.Jose Echenique wrote:
Ronald Brautigam continues his admirable cycle with this issue. The playing is exquisite of course, both concertos superbly done. And it was a great idea to include the concert aria Ch´io mi scordi di te? with piano obligato, and even if it´s not a flawless performance from Carolyn Sampson, it still gives pleasure.
Cheers Seán. As Kitajenko did such a good job with the Shostakovich symphonies I will put his Prokofiev cycle in the Ponder Pouch.Seán wrote: I do have the Kitajenko/Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne Prokofiev cycle Fergus and I really like it.
