Cracking sleeve too :-)) Is that another of Jack White's side projects? Which one(s) would you recommend as I don't have anything by him, including The White Stripes stuff, believe it or not! 'Move over Jimi and let Jack take over' :-))
For me White Blood Cells and Elephant are two of the best. Here's a little snippet on recording Elephant to whet your appetite. Elephant was recorded in 2002 over the span of two weeks with British recording engineer Liam Watson at his Toe Rag Studios in London. Jack White self-produced the album with antiquated equipment, including a duct-taped 8-track tape machine and pre-1960s recording gear.
Elephant garnered much critical acclaim upon its release. It received a perfect 5 out of 5 star rating from Rolling Stone magazine, and enjoys a near-unanimous 92% positive rating on Metacritic. Despite the band's increased fame, Allmusic believed the album "sounds even more pissed-off, paranoid, and stunning than its predecessor... Darker and more difficult than White Blood Cells." Elephant was additionally notable for premiering Jack White's first formal use of guitar soloing, and Rolling Stone Magazine placed him at #17 on its list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". That same year, Elephant was ranked number 390 on the magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
John,
Thanks for the welcome advice on Jack's output and the little review snippet. I know both albums to see but the temptation to buy wasn't strong enough! That's about to change, methinks :-)) Thanks again.....
I'd agree with that recommendation cybot. Any of those albums are very good indeed - and this one is better than his other side project, The Raconteurs - although its good as well, I think the dead weather one is better.

well the sonics are a victim of the "loudness war" I'm afraid but I was aware of this before I purchased. The sound is clear and detailed but the top end is a tad harsh. That said, I didnt find the vinyl version to be fatiguing although it is 'louder' than it should be I feel. I'd bet that the cd version is probably a lot worse. I'd be afraid to recommend it to be honest. Whereas this new release probably brings out a lot more detail and clarity over the old one, some may find the sonics too compressed. I guess if you find the original release too muddy, this one might be worth considering.
As for the music, well this one is my favorite Stones album after Let it Bleed and given that the last time I listened to it was on cassette in the mid 90's, its very refreshing to listen to it after all this time.
