Still astonishing after all these years. I give you This Heat's (who!!!!!) very first platter and on the original label too :)
Words: "Where to begin? With the discordant clanging of 24 Track Loop, which predates a large amount of modern electronic music by about 20 years? Or the ambient/industrial soundscapes, which recall Faust or Throbbing Gristle at their best? Or the churning, angular rock instrumentals which anticipated a whole slew of post-rock records to come in the (then) distant future? This Heat are one of those bands who, when you hear them, might reasonably make you wonder why they haven't been canonised, as many of their contemporaries have, into the Great Lost Bands Who Are Ahead Of Their Time lists. Indeed, with the all the lame post-punk revivalism going on over the last few years, it is slightly mystifying why this band remains so obscure. Okay - it's hardly commercial stuff, but if you enjoy music along the lines of Can, Slint and Aphex Twin, then you will certainly want this record. It's dark, twisted, beatuiful and genuinely disturbing. And it sounds like nothing else, despite all the comparisons."
