Just an overview of my setup:
Standard Contents of my mqn-directory for avx or sse:
448-clockrate.bat
Files.txt
MQn.bat
MQn-aff.bat
param.txt
paste.exe
Into this I copy:
mqncontrol.exe (from the 2.97-zip)
mqnplay1644.exe 24 bit 3.14 avx.14 avx.14 avx
And rename the last one to
mqnplay1644.exe
Aleg, I'm confused, how come you have two MQn.bat files?! I'm also using Tasker, but I have only MQN.bat from Tasker and no other bat.
Because I made the second one to run the tasker automatically after mqncontrol has been launched. Just a bit easier than to do it manually.
So mqn.bat to start without the tasker
Or
mqn-aff.bat to start with the tasker and 448 clockrate.
BTW if mqnplay won't start with my bat versions one could remove the rem before the chcp 65001 command as it could be caused by some special character in track names that won't reproduce well with a normal codepage, therefore using codepage 65001 can help sometimes.

As long as is the same thing (except the clock rate) mine is running perfect, so no need to change!
I would like to try the 448-clockrate.bat if you can post in dropbox. ;-)
I will try tonight the MQncontrol 2.97, just to compare. I compared the 1024 with 512 and the 512 is to soft for my taste.
I like the body and the fullness of avx 3.14, but still like better the details and the bass definition in avx 3.09( still my favorite).
I did not tried yet the ss2 3.18, but (in my opinion) ss2 can't even compare to avx!
Tip: Styles can be applied quickly to selected text.

The sse2 3.18 is very good though. You should certainly give it try. I have been listening to it all afternoon and it is very pleasant. I have not yet done any critical comparing to avx, just relaxed listening to some nice music.
The content of the 448-clockrate.bat and the clockrate448.reg that is calling I posted at the bottom of this posting here

Just copy them into a plain text editor and save them with the file names given in the posting.

That said there remains still the general difference in character between the avx and sse versions.

I will definitely try the ss2 3.18. I try them all anyway, but every time, if the same version is in ss2 or avx , the avx is much better (in my opinion, system and preference).
I saw the topic where you explain the clock rate (that's how I got interested), but that is for a bit more advanced guys than me! In my case is like you are giving simple driving directions to a blind man! :))))

+1 what words of wisdom. What is Aleg talking about affinity.bak??

Come on guys keep up!! :-)
Taggart created a program called tasker. With it you can assign a program to a specific core of your multi-core CPU (called CPU affinity) and change its priority among the processes.
I added a few lines to the standard mqn.bat to assign the mqnplay.exe and mqncontrol.exe to specific cores of the CPU and move all other processes to the remaining cores. Also I give mqnplay.exe a realtime priority instead of a normal priority. In my opinion this increases the sound quality of mqn.
Calling the tasker.exe is already done in the mqn-aff.bat I posted earlier.
Furthermore I set the clockrate in the registry to 448. Gordon sets a different clockrate with mqncontrol, but I like mine better, so I set it back as soon as mqnplay has been started.
I have put both files I use for setting the clockrate in a dropbox.
Just put both files together in tht directory with the mqn-aff.bat

Thanks Aleg!
See, I understand everything on the "theoretical part" of what Tasker does, what clock rate file does and hot it works, but when it comes to the "practical part" of adding or taking the lines into "something" and no idea how to get there, that's when the problems start and the @!!%$#&#% part!!!
It's like understanding how to write a poem, but without previously learning all the letters!!

Great to see Adam you suffer from the same illness as me! Thanks Aleg for doing your best to bring us along. After Leinster beat Ulster in the second half I will endevour to incorporate the files into my MQN stuff. I have tasker already but the affinity.bat was news to me.
TBH I think a lot of people struggle with those things and it needs Gordon, yourself and some of the others to make it easy for us to follow.
We all want to come along on the ride.
