the whole boxset is worth the purchase, Dave... along with his magnificent reading of the Requiem and Mass in D... for me, it's an indispensible recording...

There are some performances in music that are dear to your heart and this is one of those for me.
agreed wholeheartedly... I really don't understand the strength of feeling shown by this piece's detractors... for me, it's one of the finest Religious Choral Works of its era, and this is a particularly fine performance. Having eventually had the courage to sell the Karajan version (too laboured and mushy) on ebay, I will be looking for a replacement to complement this one in due course, but it will be another with smaller forces I think... any suggestions?
For what it's worth, Chalkie loves Herr SSRattle's recording, now there's a surprise.
The Rattle version is a very good one indeed.

Dave, that looks to be a very intriguing recommendation... it's been added to my Amazon WL; thanks!
The version by Kempe is also a supremely good one with ravishing singing.

This is lovely, charming music that is very well played on period instruments.

It may be that you'd be better off buying the 2-disc set 'The Tallis Scholars sing Thomas Tallis'. I *think* it has the same recordings, plus more, and it's cheaper generally. Can't link pic from phone, but amazon have it.

^^ yes, this is the original recording I admit, but it is going rather cheap from third party sellers at present:

anyway Fergus, as you'd expect from the TS, it's a stunning recording...
