Gustav Mahler
Symphony No. 7
Sinfonieorchester des Südwestfunks Baden-Baden
Hans Rosbaud conducting.
The Seventh was recorded in February 1957 so the recording quality is not all it might be. However, that does not in any way take from the pleasure of the performance, it is superb, I LOVE it.

Albert Roussel
Piano Trio in E flat major, opus 2
Jet Röling - Piano
Jean-Jacques Kantorow - Violin
Herre-Jan Stegenga - Cello
The piano trio was only Roussel's second composition and it is reported that we was heavily influenced by D'Indy at this stage of his career and had not yet found his own distinctive voice. That said, this is a lovely work performed beautifully her by Röling et al.
I love French Chamber music but I do not know Roussel's work. That set looks like a very good introduction Seán.

Shostakovich: String Quartets Nos. 14 & 15....
....two magnificent works. Two of my favourite string quartets by any composer, especially no. 14. No. 15 is very dark and brooding but still wonderful.

Oh dear, from spending all day yesterday listening to music to just now getting time to catch my breath and no music at all.
Anyway, yes it is a good set Fergus. I bought it many years ago and listened to some of it for awhile but it has been a long time since I spent listened to it. The trio is lovely.
