The only release they made and what an album!

I had a brief talk with Simon Philips about that collaboration many moons ago, (he was over doing a drum clinic). He told me of all the recordings he had played on (to that date) it was the one that kept on providing royalties.

Great choices :) Thanks for reminding me that I had the new remastered vinyl edition of 801 Live down for a forthcoming buy. Completely forgot about it :( See link below....

Thanks for the vinyl link - any other recommended sources for vinyl?

BTW. I caught the 801 live at the Reading festival in 1976 - one of only a half dozen appearances of the original group (I think).
Some similar albums from the time featuring some of the same lineup include:
Manzanera's Diamond Head and Listen Now!
Main: Qobuz/Arcam Alpha 9 CD/Project Carbon Esprit->Auralic Polaris->Chord Silver Carnival->Martin Logan EM-ESL
Office: Qobuz->Auralic Aries Mini->Denafrips ARES II->miniDSP 2X4 HD>Primare I32->Harbeth P3ESR/REL T5X

Thanks for the list - been out of the vinyl scene for about 25 years but intend to get a few choice albums over the coming year.

BTW here is a link to the Reading festival that year. I'd forgotten how many good bands, and some not so good, were involved:

Stayed for the entire festival. Standouts for me were Gong, Manfred Mann, Van Der Graffs, Camel, the 801, Gallagher, The Enid, Brand X and Osibisa.
I remember that Ted Nugent, "the hardest man in rock", would not come on until the rain stopped - something about water and electricity!

That sounds exactly like Ted! Hard to believe that you've actually mentioned The Enid! It was only recently that I renewed my fondness for that most eccentric of bands. Needless to say I went Enid crazy when I heard their classically infused music for the first time all those years ago. I ended up buying up all their original albums on vinyl up to and including The Seed and the Sower. When I discovered that they were redoing the original albums I had no hesitation in buying them too! I remember being on the fan list and getting a cassette with my name on it (Intro. to the Enid),narrated by Robert plus a lovely typed message from the man himself. Then for years I could not get that Enid mojo working again and abandoned them to obscurity :( Thankfully all that has changed recently and now I'm an Enid lover again! It was fascinating in comparing the multiple versions of Fand, live and otherwise again. Flames of Power from Salomé moved me like it used to, a song I had completely forgotten about! Finally just out of curiosity I typed Robert John Godfrey into Google and I couldn't believe that he was still going strong despite being diagnosed with diabetes recently and as enthusiastic as ever with a new solo/band album out plus loads of Enid related stuff! So even though I've posted the links below I'm not sure I'm all that interested in their current music. We'll see, I might be pleasantly surprised.....
