That is good news re sse2 version. Sitting on the fence can pay off. I have held off on haswell well no money left in the kitty anyway and want some value from my sandybridge purchase last year!

Keep fighting Gordon/Aleg the results are very worthwhile and the audience is kept entertained!

But the avx 2.98 (fast or not-fast) is still better than sse2 3.04.
I said is was coming closer, but it hasn't got to the same level yet.
Avx is sooo good.

And Tony you can join in with the 'fight', fence sitting isn't mandatory. :-)
Everyone's opinion counts!!

Gordon, can't we just finish it with an avx 2.98??

3.04 was also better than 3.05, has more shine and longer decays than 3.05. But avx 2.98 tops all. It is THE strong point of the avx, this shining, glowing sound with perfect decays.

Will now also try 3.06.
There is no 3.06 yet on the Google drive?

OK finally have an audio PC running again with an old DAC to get me by until the main DAC is repaired and it feels like I missed a whole load of change.....no wonder people coming new have difficulties!!
Rant over now, what happened to running MQN in MQNLoad, cannot even see new MQN versions in MQNLoad?
Anybody else having issues with running in MQNLoad?

Back to the old versions for me :-((

To be able to see the new mqnplay versions in MQn, you have to rename them from "mqnplay1644.exe 298 avx" to something like "mqnplay.exe 2.98 1644 avx".

Gordon has changed the naming scheme in order to let the new mqncontrol choose right samplesize/rate version for the music files at hand.
Taggart has not yet changed mqnload to handle this new naming scheme.

I do notice however that mqnload will not always load the avx versions properly, they will start and load the tracks but no sound comes. In my situation the avx need to be started vua the mqn.bat or my mqn-aff.bat AND the mqncontrol and mqnplay need to be run as Administrator with the avx version (set checkbox in properties/compatibility tab).

But the avx sound is glorious and well worth the extra 'trouble' of the other startup route.

avx version of 3.08, must be better than 2.98.

Agree 3.08 avx is better than 2.98 avx.
It has a better control of the tone, relatively speaking the 2.98 can open up somewhat too widely, causing a kind of 'blare' (not literally, but relatively speaking). The 3.08 avx keeps a tighter control on the sound.

uploaded 3.06 avx for comparison

3.08 is 3.06 with the fast code setting which gives more control, but I think sounds less musical

Just compared 3.08 avx to 3.09 avx.
This one is difficult.

3.08 has a slightly warmer tone, more pleasant.
3.09 has a tad more details and a better instrument seperation, but the colour of 3.08 is very pleasant.

3.06 doesn't do it for me. It has a somewhat muffled veiled sound, it has less of brilliance and shine of the 3.08 and 3.09 avx versions.

It would find it difficult to choose between 3.08 and 3.09

What do you think?
