I feel the same for most music, but am in doubt if it is 'over the top' bass heavy when listening to a double bass as in tracks from Charlie Haden. Also it feels a bit weight down.
That's mainly the reason I had not yet commented on 2.97 12 GB.

think the solution to mqnload is just rename control.exe to control.exe multiplay or something and just select it and a random play version.
Both sse2 and avx versions of mqnplay.exe crash as soon as launched by mqncontrol.exe

Am using mqncontrol from 2.97 zip

Any plausible cause?

Cheers

can't think of any, set to 2gb, so that shouldn't be a problem, renaming issue ?

2.97 is not correct, hopefully 2.98 is better, it's 8 8 alignment as the fast setting seems to supercharge the bass and 8 16 was too much.

Yep, you were right hadn't noticed it doesn't create an mqnplay.exe when I leave the versionnumber on.

Started listening 2.98 now.

Probably right I was using a lightweight track by St Vincent and it really filled it out. 2.98 is probably better balance.
Changed my dac a few weeks ago to a Lampizator so thought initially that this was adding the big bass sound.

Just to be sure I leave the new play file with 1644 in the name? On 2.97 will go back and check maybe I used a different mqnplay on the 2g by mistake. When I do as I am describing I end up having music play but then another mqnplay file is creating in the mqn folder is this right?

Yes, it should look like "mqnplay1644.exe" and the new mqncontrol.exe will copy that to mqnplay.exe when starting playback of 1644 tracks ( and likewise with other resolution tracks and mqnplayxxxx, exe files).

The sound of an sse2 or an avx is so very different of character, it is almost unimaginable it is just a different instruction set on the same code.

Sse2 has less depth of sound, is somewhat more direct as if recorded with close-miking and with little spatial character.

Avx has more air, space around the sound and it sings more, the notes of a piano are allowed time to finish to very low volumes. All with incredible details.

I can see people preferring one over the other just as a matter of personal preference.

For me it has to be the avx version again over the sse2.

2.98 is indeed again more balanced and more true sounding than 2.97.
Avx 2.98 would for me be a very good final version.
