Check if you've got the paste.exe also in that directory.
The error shows the intermediate file(s) of the mqn.bat are not created.
Does you have a param.txt file and does it have the proper track inside?

I have
paste.exe in that dir, also
files.txt,
files1.txt and
param.txt (last 3 are empty).
Same on
C:\Mqn. All files with dropped rights.
When param.txt is empty, it show there was either nothing on your clipboard (so nothing selected) or the paste.exe is not working in this directory, because paste copies the clipboard into param.txt so that file should show your selected tracks at least. The other files are created after that, and files.txt should begin with a capital F, so Files.txt.
Difficult to determine from a distance what is happening. It is certainly not related to mqnplay versions, but more likely to be due to a changed (?) directory setup?
Hope someone else can chime in too.
Cheers
Aleg

this control won't work with previous mqnplay versions ie the stopping problem won't be fixed.

mqnplay.exe appears to crash immediately.
I cannot check event viewer as my event log service is switched off in optimisations.
But no sound with 2.97 while 2.96 runs with no issue on same setup.

might be because I'm reserving 20gb of space, works on mine even though I have 6gb installed. what o/s and ram do you have ? I'll post a 2 gb version
uploaded 2gb version, see if that works.
Tip: Styles can be applied quickly to selected text.

I'm running Server 2012 R2 with 16 GB RAM

2GB does indeed work.

There is definitely a problem with paste.exe. When I unchecked "run as admin..." all is working great now.
So... testing 2.96 for the first time and I'm impressed (as usual) - very detailed and deep sound.
I Hope Taggart will do something to make these nasty ZIP versions more user friendly.
BTW thanks for your help Aleg

2.97 2GB work here as well. 20GB does not.
John Dot: For the moment there are two ways for using zip-provided-files:
a. leave naming scheme like it is and use mqn.bat and paste.exe
b. rename the the versions to anything that follows the old naming scheme and use them with Mqnload

uploaded 2.97 12gb, does that work ?
works for me.
Taggart, I'm using an early version of mqnload with no problem ie it renames mqnplay1644.exe etc, what is the issue with control renaming mqnplay1644.exe to mqnplay.exe etc ?

There is in all likelihood no problem, but Taggart setup his MQnLoad in such a way it is very easy to switch between versions of mqn, but it is using your old naming conventions of "mqnplay.exe<some description>" to show the different versions alongside each other. Now with the zipped files the mqnplay.exe from different versions are all named the same so one cannot just put them in the same directory.
12GB is also running fine here with 16GB available RAM.

Thanks Aleg! That all versions now have the same name is one problem, the other one is:
MqnLoad enumerates its own folder for file names that start with "mqncontrol.exe " or "mqnplay.exe " and that are followed by an additional string. This additional string is shown in lists of mqnload options dialog. Now the files have names like mqnplay1644.exe and thus they aren't recognized by mqnload and not shown in list.
If one renames this file to e.g. to "mqnload.exe 2.97 1644 zip" (scheme like before), then it works with mqnload - except that a error message is displayed in control window because copy logic of new mqncontrol.exe now doesn't work anymore (because the mqnplay1644.exe file is already renamed by mqnload.exe!).
