These are truly wonderful performances. Abbado brings out everything that is beautiful in these works. What a pity they only recorded 7 instead of the full London cycle.

The late sonatas are really lovely works and this is a real gem:

Wilhelm Kempf - Piano.


This is a beautiful performance by Wilhelm Kempff. I would go so far as to suggest it should be in every classical music lover's collection.

The set is in my collection Seán but I must confess that it is quite a while since I listened to any of it.

This was one of the albums that eventually led me to an appreciation of Wagner’s music. I eventually bought Bohm’s full Ring cycle on the basis of it. A very good place to start if you are not familiar with this repertoire.
