Concerto No. 2 for flute and orchestra

Marisa Canales - Flute
Orquesta de las Américas
Benjamin Juárez Echenique conducting.

This is a rousing and beautiful work by the Mexican composer Samuel Zyman and is performed wonderfully here by flautist Marisa Canales (what a gorgeous tone she has) and Orquesta de las Américas all under the direction of Benjamin Juárez Echenique. I LOVE it.
Well made music I think.

When I bought this cd many moons ago I was very disappointed with it as I thought the music was dull and repetitous but I was wrong and, with repeated listening, it has grown on me. The performances are WONDERFUL.
Yes, it is amazing what the development of an "educated" ear does for the interpretation of music over time. I have been there many times myself Seán on my extended journey; it is all part of the education process.

It shared for decades with Szell´s version the #1 recommendation for the dances. Now Harnoncourt joins them as a first recommendation.

This is a compilation CD which ultimately led me to explore the different composers contained therein. The music is wonderful, the performances are terrific and the sound world is enchanting. It is a great introduction to Early Music and a strong recommendation even simply as a good general listen.

No BAL this morning and Andrew's choice of music from 9.30 does not interest me; the girls have gone out shopping for the day so the house is full of the wonderful sound of:

Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 7

Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra
Claudio Abbado conducting.

Perfection in the art of music-making.

This is a wonderful, strong, assertive performance of the Jupiter.

I am following in the footsteps of my illustrious mentor, Mister Byrne:

Joseph Haydn
Symphony No. 82 & 83

Concentus musicus Wien
Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducting.

These are lovely performances by this Viennese orchestra; but all the repeats, a tad over done perhaps, but it is a very enjoyable listening experience none the less. I rarely listen to these recordings because of the length of the performances.

Oh I am starting to get itchy feelings about that one.
Recent conversation at home with my wonderful wife:
Seán: "Julie (my sister) was amazed to learn that I have more than two thousand CDs! I thought she knew that."

Wonderful Wife: "More than two thousand? How many have you got?"

Seán (the amadán didn't see it coming) "I have about 2,400."

Wonderful Wife: "You have two-thousand-four-hundred CDs, my God!"

Faeces!
