Yes, I had the same apphehension regarding No. 29 Seán but it was a fine performance and I enjoyed it as it was handled in an appropriate way.Seán wrote:fergus wrote:Mozart: Symphonies 41 & 29 / Barbirolli....
The Jupiter Symphony does lend itself to performances by a large orchestra, what of the beautiful 29th though, what do you make of that recording?
Agreed; a fine set of performances all round!Seán wrote:
Samuel Zyman
Concerto No. 2 for flute and orchestra
Marisa Canales - Flute
Orquesta de las Américas
Benjamin Juárez Echenique conducting.
This is a rousing and beautiful work by the Mexican composer Samuel Zyman and is performed wonderfully here by flautist Marisa Canales (what a gorgeous tone she has) and Orquesta de las Américas all under the direction of Benjamin Juárez Echenique. I LOVE it.

Agreed; one of my favourite Mozart symphonies.Seán wrote: Glad to hear it. The 29th is such a splendid work.
Yes, it is amazing what the development of an "educated" ear does for the interpretation of music over time. I have been there many times myself Seán on my extended journey; it is all part of the education process.Seán wrote:
Antonín Dvořák
Slavonic Dances op. 46 & op. 72
Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks
Rafael Kubelik conducting.
When I bought this cd many moons ago I was very disappointed with it as I thought the music was dull and repetitous but I was wrong and, with repeated listening, it has grown on me. The performances are WONDERFUL.
