Symphony No. 8 from this set....
This is another very strong performance from these forces.

They are slower but yes, there are repeats.fergus wrote:Seán wrote:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
String Quintet No. 6 K. 614
Orlando Quartet with Nobuko Imai - Viola
Interestingly, the first movement is 11'15 long and that is some 4 minutes longer than the Grumiaux and Juilliard recordings in my collection. Good though this is, it does not compare favourably to the Grumiaux recording, in fact when comparing the two I am looking forward to the end of the performance by the Orlando and Imai so that I can get back to the Grumiaux.
And now for the Juilliard......
Their speeds cannot be that slow so they must be performing repeats that the other ensembles are not performing.

Joseph Haydn
Symphony No. 88
Philharmonia Hungarica
Antal Dorati conducting.
It is about time I returned to the wonderful world of Joseph Haydn and revisit some of the gems in my collection.

I do not have many recorded performances of orchestras under the direction of John Barbirolli in my collection, that's more by accident than design.fergus wrote:Symphony No. 8 from this set....

Piano Trio in E major Hob 28
Piano Trio in E flat major Hob 29
Piano Trio in E flat major Hob 30
Bart van Oort - Fortepiano
Rémy Baudet - Violin
Jaap Ter Linden - Cello
I love these performances from a too long neglected set in my collection. Bart van Oort's playing is delicious the fortepiano is ideal in this repertoire. These are lovely works and all three musicians shine here. Recommended.

Hi Fergus. It's a good album alright. Any Arnalds you would recommend? I'm new to his music.fergus wrote:
That looks quite interesting Mark. I have a amount of Arnalds music and I really like it.

I like his work Seán; his performances are usually strong and assertive. I like his Mahler of which I have a number of performances.
