I would throw that statement right back at you my friend... with reference to Renaissance music..

5) Schoenberg's Ewartung - truly horrific, unbearable in fact.

English Music.

Händel (German, actually!)

Edit Schumann's symphonies

Edit Rakhmaninov's symphonies

(Thanks, Seán! (Actually, I try at both of these, occasionally with some success.))

Bruckner

Wagner

Hooray for no politics!

I love all of these, except Wagner. Would you like to talk about any of these, or have they long since been a closed book?

I'm not sure what the point of discussing them would be: I very much doubt that you could persuade me to "get" them, and what if I somehow managed to undermine your feelings for them? You wouldn't be happy, and neither would I!

well, that wouldn't happen, but I can certainly respect someone's postion for having tried something and found it not to be to their taste... our emotional connection with music and the Arts for that matter, does tend to be such a subjective thing.

Yes. I'm not saying that anything on my list is bad music, just that I don't (in the main) get it, and don't enjoy it. There's no reason why everyone should appreciate Wagner, just as not everyone enjoys Proust or Henry James or Degas or Picasso.
