Yes the one with Alceo Galliera, I´d say the finest version of the Beethoven concerto.

Violin concertos by Bruch and Mendelssohn played by Suk & the Czech Philharmonic / Ancerl....

Both are great works but I particularly like the Bruch VC with its wonderful and dramatic first movement, the beautifully lyrical slow movement and the very energetic and exciting final movement. Those unforgettable themes in the second and third movements also help a great deal!

Brahms: Symphony No. 1 played by the Berlin Philharmonic / Kempe....

This work has what is one one of my favourite openings for a symphony. I also love the last movement, particularly the horn lead in; haunting.

Mozart: Symphony No. 40 / Bruggen....

This is a well paced and unsentimental version but which still has the required Mozartian lilt. It is a strong and assertive performance.

I am delighted that you enjoy the performance; it is a wonderful set all round!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
String Quintet No. 6 K. 614

Grumiaux Trio: Arthur Grumiaux - Violin; Georges Janzer - Viola; Eva Czako - Cello;
Arpad Gérecz - Violin & Max Lesuer - Violin.

It is difficult to put into words just how good this music is and the performance here on this cd is sublime, this is as good as it gets.
