This was quite a powerful, assertive performance without being over exuberant.

^^ I would imagine that's a fine recording, Fergus... wasn't Raymond Leppard at the forefront of the HIP movement in the 1970's?

I have also noticed you've been striking a very fine balance recently, between playing new Cds and working your way through your old vinyl collection... it's a difficult line to tread isn't it? Even now, I'm very concerned that I have music which hasn't seen the light of day in well over two years... ;-(

back to the present:

very much enjoying the balance of repertoire on this disk, from rousing through to meditative... Pergolesi wrote some beautiful music during his perilously short time on this earth...

Yes Jared, Raymond Leppard was right in there from the start and that is a very fine set.

You are correct about the balance and I am trying to fit in some old CDs as well!!

I am delighted that you are also enjoying the Pergolesi!

possibly my favourite Pergolesi I have heard however is from this disk:

I'd have to confess, it would be close to being a desert island disk... ;-)

I had meant to ask you earlier Jared if you are listening to all the Early Music at work and if so what kind of reaction are you getting to it?

no, this has been all at home over the past few days/ week (I spent 3 days in hospital last week with a kidney infection, and still feel as if I've been hit for 6) however there is no doubt that some of it would be highly suitable, and I may give it a try this week!

an enjoyable proms performance last night: Strauss: Don Jaun, Walton: Violin Concerto, Prokofiev: Alexander Nevsky (Filmscore), Strauss: Salome: Dance of the Seven Veils excerpt. Andris Nelsons & CBSO... nearly 2 1/2 hours of quality from the beeb!
