Mozart: Violin Concertos 4 & 5....

I thought that this was a great set; on first listen this would appear to be one of the better cycles of the Mozart VCs that I own. Tetzlaff appears to be a really good Mozartian and his interpretations are very much to my liking. There is great musicality, sense of flow and rhythm and a drive to the music which is not relentless. A very warm recommendation.

The Reiner Scheherazade sure seems to be popular!

Schumann: Cello Concerto played by Gastinel....

This version of the Schumann Cello Concerto is a somewhat contemplative performance but a fine and enjoyable one. The other works on the CD are chamber works and we are provided with sparkling performances by Gastinel and her accompanist Claire Désert.

Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem....

This is a version for two pianos and choir. The version has two effects, it naturally lightens the overall texture of the work and it also focuses the attention more on the choral element. The choral singing is excellent. This version is a wonderful contrast to the orchestral version.
