Bach's sophticated use of simplicity, beautifully played by Schiff and the COE.

I have always liked this version; it is a thoughtful, contemplative one which allows one to digest the music.

The sound of Gabrielli transports one back to the Basilica in San Marco, Venezia. There is a great Wall of sound from the 5 and 6-part polyphonic music from Di Lasso in particular.

There is beautifully articulated singing and great synergy in the harmonies. The deep bass voice lends a very rich texture to the sound. The overall sound on the disc is excellent and, being forward, lends a great presence to the performances. This is truly wonderful music with excellent music making.
