I'm still waiting for my previous order, but that hasn't stopped me ordering more Monteverdi this morning:



bought used for €5 after shipping, and



taking advantage of money off at wowhd today where it was €15.29.

I listened to some samples of these recordings and they really appeal to me, so I'll be interested to see what I think compared to Alessandrini when they arrive. They're obviously a more English choral sound, but you know I've a soft spot for that.

Rooley is well recognised in Monteverdi as you know Simon. I have the first disc and I also like them but not as much as others. The issue, as you say, is the particular "sound" which one either likes or would not be to one's taste. However, as you have sampled them you know what to expect and also found them to your liking. You have a lot of wonderful music there; enjoy!

Thanks Fergus. It's partly the Emma Kirkby thing (which I really do enjoy) and partly the vestiges of English Cathedral sound (not that this is anything like that, but the singing comes from a similar tradition) that I'm drawn to. I find it very effective if not entirely accurate and it always seems to bring a particular emotional response in me that I occasionally find lacking when I listen to "better" recordings. We'll see when it arrives!

I am with you on Emma Kirkby and I understand what you mean regarding the singing tradition so I think that you will like the Rooley, Simon. I will be interested in your comments eventually.
