Challenging but exciting!
In 2007 & 2008 I returned several of SSRattle's Mahler CDs to HMV and Tower however, I kept the M10 with the BPO and I'm sorry I did. Do you like that performance?fergus wrote:M10 / Rattle....
As M10s go I prefer it to his BPO version Seán but I am not keen on the work in general [other than the obviously completed Adagio].Seán wrote:In 2007 & 2008 I returned several of SSRattle's Mahler CDs to HMV and Tower however, I kept the M10 with the BPO and I'm sorry I did. I have the cycle on CD and it is wonderful, I missed getting the Quintets unfortunately, some day perhaps.fergus wrote:I have been slowly making my way through this vinyl box set for some time now and have finally completed listening to it....
It is a gorgeous music-making.fergus wrote:
Like Seán earlier I really enjoyed these versions of the JSB Motets. They are sung here by an ensemble called Arsys [new to me] directed by one Pierre Cao. The singing is of a high quality. The director uses tempi and rhythms which yield a very favourable outcome for me in that the maintain that certain lilt which I like in JS Bach performances. The ensemble is very well balanced which makes for easy listening to the polyphonic lines.
Same here Seán.Seán wrote: I have the cycle on CD and it is wonderful, I missed getting the Quintets unfortunately, some day perhaps.
