Find it hard to believe we are at poles apart on this one, going to go back and check my settings tonight, no priority, affinity or clock rate changes for me, just loaded in to an existing MQN folder with recent versions.
I was amazed at the width and depth with amazing decay and sparkle I was hearing but most of all I was drawn in by the music which mostly included vocals, getting vocals right is where I have always been very picky.
I tried 2.38 afterwards and I felt that version was tame and lacking by comparison to 2.37!

Will be interested to see if all was in order as I have been caught out by MQNload before so I did check it was on 2.37 during some of the tracks so do not believe there was any issue there, it will be staying in my collection either way.
id agree on the spaciousness air and acoustic space gone
theres some real good aspects of 2.37 too
2.31 does have better balance, rather than some aspects been very good others not so good like 2.37

2.38 needs the 2.38 musicplayer control for better sq

2.31 is excellent especially as it does all sample rates. I'd be happy if it was the last ever player. But I was tempted to try 2.38 including it's required control. The bass is so good with great control . Pity so far that it's limited to 16/44.1 but there's something here not to be lost.

Agree with you here Ken, 2.38 with control c musicplayer, has the best bass detail and controled bass I have heared thusfar. Providing good insight into subtle differences in bass and does not becoming blooming at all. Great feature!!

Used some tracks with Charlie Haden on double bass.

2.31 has more shine in mid and upper.

Revisited 2.37 and I have to stay with my previous opinion. 2.31 has more and freeer spacial sound. 2.37 is restricted, flattened and not as free flowing in acoustic space.

Gordon, please find a combination of the movement, air and shine of 2.31 and the bass control of 2.38 with control c musicplayer.

Cheers

I'm not sure we've ever bettered the air and movement of 100000
Lots of other stuff better

This type of acoustic atmosphere gives a great sense of space, time and presence
its a sort of reality or live factor

Would be great if we could get that back

Alright went back and checked and thought I found a culprit but no!!
MQNLoad was dropping down to the next MQN in my list at 2.25 if I hit x during playback but if I let the track continue to the end, then close the command window and then restart MQNLoad would hold 2.37.

Next checked which MQNControl I was using and I track this by date and it turns out I am still on 24 bit avx2 v1 100000 from 05/03/2014 at 12:16.

Could someone try this MQNControl and see if it makes a difference as it sounds damn good to me.

I need to go off and try some of these latest MQNControls myself now and see if they are any better or worse!!
Too many options but sure it is all part of the fun :-)

any takers for R2.39, use the control R2.39 as well.

Had the other half singing along totally unprompted, don't know if that's a sign of anything.

Uses an instruction that was enhanced for haswell 256 bit memory bus.

R2.39b - just takes the edge off a bit

Doesn't work, just makes a horrible sound so I have to hit the X button quick.

I think 2.31 and 1.1 is the best combo. AVX 10000 makes the soundstage kinda wedge shaped, narrower and lacking a little bit of bass for me but very energetic. Undertand why Aleg likes it, becauce I've used to own a Naim nait XS + teddycap and the XS had a very punchy sound, emphasis on the midbass (Naim house-sound) but lacking a little bit of top resolution, so I would guess the avx10k would gel well with it.

R2.39, R2.39b and 2.40 all play fine here with corresponding Control version.

Had the same initially but copied an earlier MQNPlay version in to the folder and got MQNLoad to run that first then went back and selected 2.39 again and all working fine.

had another listen to 2.31, it is very good, shall go back and see if anything from the recent versions can be added to it.
