This is a wonderful CD; the music is both lovely and intriguing and the variety of textures and sounds from the multiplicity of original instruments is both magical and very well balanced.

After listening to a string :P of Mendellsohn Quartets -- numbers 1 and 2 to be exact -- I put on the first cd from this Abbado/CSO set

Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Symphony No. 1
The Nutcracker suite

Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Claudio Abbado - conducting.

As I said on another thread: I love the big brassy sound of the CSO, this is very enjoyable music-making.
