Some light relief after the intensity of Mahler's wonderful music....
I would say that Poulenc enjoyed writing the music to the story of Babar.
Irrespective of who composed it I have always enjoyed the Toy Symphony.
The Three German Dances K605 are also enjoyable especially No. 3 in the set.

Oh dear me,what an affliction! When I escape to my man cave of an evening and take out a CD I invariably end up with performances of music by Mozart. This evening is no exception.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Violin Concertos No. 1, 2 & 3
Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich
Pamela Frank solo violin
David Zinman conducting.
Lovely music-making.

This is probably still the best HIP Figaro, and one of the finest ever made period or not. Barbara Bonney is the stand out in the cast, but Arleen Augér is also a lovely countess.

I would not have known that Pepe but I did really enjoy the performance. The singing was really enjoyable without being over dramatic.
