Thanks Jared. Blomstedt and Vanska are already and the list.
I love Vänskä's work. The Bernstein, Vänskä and Blomstedt cycles are very good indeed. I have all of HvK's EMI cycle....I wish I hadn't bothered, it was the folly of youth.

Probably my favorite of Shostakovich's symphonies. I love the march build up in the first movement, kinda reminds me of Ravel's Bolero but way better. Haitink does seem to excel with Shostakovich. I dont rate his Mahler much though.

The tempi were perhaps a bit too fast for my liking but I still enjoyed the performance a lot.

Ludwig van Beethoven
Violin Sonata No. 5 "Spring"

Oleg Kagan violin

This is wonderful music-making, I am particularly fond of Kagan's playing, it is spine tingling in places.

Franz Schubert
Piano Quintet, "Trout"

Sviatoslav Richter piano
Mikhail Kopelman violin
Dmitri Shebalin viola
Valentin Berlinsky cello
Georg Hörtnagel double bass

Very nice Seán. I've got some of those Quatuor Mosaïques recordings. Hope you enjoyed it.
