Ok, so I have taken a deep breath and finally splashed out. this set has been on my wish list longer than anything else, but remained there because of the prohibitive price. just got a reasonably good deal on ebay, however:

Congratulations Jared on a worthy purchase. I do like that set, the playing is very fine throughout; it is great to be able to listen to a recording of every Haydn Symphony, Dorati and Fischer deserve praise for their complete cycles. The Dorati does not have universal appeal I know, but it is marvellous and I prefer it to what I have heard of the Fischer/Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra Haydn set. Enjoy.

Dorati is a great set, but I prefer Fischer myself. If you are a completist Amazon USA has reduced the digital Davies set to virtually "nothing" ($22) over the last few weeks.

thanks Peter, but I only want one complete set; I like Dorati as a conductor and I've had my eye on this set for absolutely ages.... of course, I have some Haydn Symphs by Harnoncourt, Goodman, Pinnock and Kuijken, but a complete survey is highly desirable for me.

thanks Sean, I know you've long spoke highly of this set...

I'll be listening to it in stages, no doubt over the next 6 months or more, especially some of the lesser known Symphs I have never heard.
