well I must admit, the Requiem is a bit of a gamble because I am not familiar with the forces, but over the years, I have come to trust the Czechs when they perform their own music; it's always filled with such passion and Supraphon is a good label.
100% agree with both of those points Jared. I will be curious to read how you get on there.

That said, the 'Zelenka' cupboard is still bare, and I've managed to pick these two up at very reasonable prices. Besides you know me, I can resist anything except temptation... ;-)
I love Zelenka's music and that performance is marvellous.

Sean, I remember you saying that you'd enjoyed that disk a lot, which was one of my reasons for the purchase... this Mass also happens to be one of his more highly regarded works, so I felt I was in safe hands...

I broke down and went for the two Verdi boxes from Decca and EMI as my collection was somewhat weak in the Verdi realm.....
Many joyful hours await...... :)

and there's no shame, when faced with overwhelming temptation, in 'breaking down' Peter... we've all been there, we've all done it... you're amongst friends.. ;-)

I will listen to them in the dark.....
Now I just need librettos and a bunch of DVD versions and a Verdi biography and a Verdi t-shirt and ........
Hmm, one should dress up as one of the characters in Aida before listening to it? That would be very funny. I can see the whole family parked in the living room dressed up as Egyptians as the sound of Aida is bellowing out through the windows scaring the neighborhood cats away for days. Actually, what is a good spectacular DVD version of Aida?

In terms of Callas, Aida and Mexico City?
I have the live 1951 recording on the Bravissimo label (which I thoroughly enjoy). Would anybody know if it is worth seeking out the live 1950 recording?
