Count me as one who does not like Bruggen/Orchestra of the 18th Century Schubert "Great" C major Symphony. Played it for the first time this evening. I miss the grandeur and power of a modern orchestra version. All the repeats drag the work out to excess. The smaller ensemble does let you hear the inner voices and chord structures, but that wears thin soon... as do the strings.
The early symphonies are fine and even the "Unfinished" is ok. The 9th just needs more... for me at least.

I bought a Brahms Symphony Cycle and a German Requiem late last year all conducted by Alsop [not played by the same orchestra as yours] and I also found them to be very good. I like her conducting.
