No, Jared, you like what you like. I really like the Chailly too but what I really like about the Rattle is the drive and the energy coupled with the drama. Perhaps a young conductor doing a youg composer's work just managed to bring out the exhuberance and drama of this work for me? I find it almost operatic!Jared wrote:maybe I need to listen to it again, with new ears... ;-)) what I like most about the Chailly set are his orchestral textures..fergus wrote:I have not heard the MTT version, I have the Chailly and another by Wyn Morris but my favourite by a long way is the Rattle. "Inspired by Bach" is a recording of the Solo Cello Suites BWV 1007-1012, which is what we are talking about. It is or was available with accompanying videos, but the CDs are just the music. This was the version recommended by BAL, and a very good one it is too. I don't know how many recordings Yo Yo Ma has made of of BWV 1007-1012, but I think the one marketed as Inspired by Bach" is the most recent.Jared wrote:^^ with the greatest respect, I think the album cover you're showing is of Cello Suite music... inspired by Bach. the second set's cover:
my apologies Ciaran, I've obviously been misinformed about the recording...Ciaran wrote: "Inspired by Bach" is a recording of the Solo Cello Suites BWV 1007-1012, which is what we are talking about.
