I LOVE box sets but I am trying to resist..........DonKC wrote:So far I can say the Weber Clarinet Concerto disc (Benny Goodman, Clarinet) and the Ravel (Rapsodie Espagnole, Mother Goose Suite, Alborada del Gracioso and Introduction and Allegro for Harp, Flute Clarinet and Strings) disc in the Martinon/CSO set are both superb. These are among the ones I had never heard (or forgotten I heard) so first out of the box.
Great sound and each disc has the original cover reproduced on the sleeve. Nice, informative booklet.

Wonderful works, particular the Sonata for unaccompanied cello, Op. 8.
Starker owned the Sonata.. there is (at least was) a YouTube video of him playing it in Tokyo. Made it look easy.

Sir John Pritchard toured Mexico in the 1970´s with the LSO, maybe they took him to El Salón México, a popular dance salon that no longer exists.
Re: What are you listening two?
I have 3 or 4 works conducted by John Pritchard and I must say that I have enjoyed every one of them.Jose Echenique wrote:

Re: What are you listening two?
His symphony No. 3 would be held in reasonably high regard Seán with very good reason and I am sure that you would enjoy it. He is probably most known for his Harp Concerto which is also not in your collection obviously LOL!!Seán wrote:Reinhold Glière? That's another new one on me.
