floaters should be on when pc is on
its a good idea to monitor voltages constantly when breaking in the new equipment
loss off the usb card could be down to low voltage on the 3.3v rail
id try to get everything functional with onboard graphics first

nige,
At this point I am leaving the floaters on all of the time. I would always leave them on while the computer is running.
From what I am reading I suspect using the video card is not a good idea with battery supplies. Even the lowest power usage I have seen is still around 17 watts. Have no idea what the card I am/was using requires.
Maybe if I can find a way to power the card externally it will be OK. I will go back to onboard VGA until I can figure this part out.

If you use an external supply for gfx card it will have to be lifepo4 too anything noisier will inject noise

I would not consider using anything else!
Have you seen the folks converting x16 cards into x1 by cutting off the rest of the pins and placing a jumper so the card is recognized as such? I think I will try this and at the same time find a way to power the thing since I figure I should put that USB card in the first slot where I had placed the video card.
Wish those cards did not require two different voltages. Might have to let the CPU handle the video, now.
I see there are 16x to 1x adapters which would make dealing with the power easier. My case is not small.

That's much better - so it would only get the 3.3 from the ATX battery supply?
Wish it could get the 3.3 remotely, also.
I went with the smaller A123s for the 12 volts and that might be my downfall with the video card.
Thanks for the recommendation - I will put one on order!

Here's the mod for any that are interested.

He says it usually works without any thing else.
If it doesn't attaching a jumper between a1 and b17 will settle the computer's confusion.
At this point the video card may be rendered moot. Only time will tell.
Thanks again for that link.

i consider any trace or pcie/usb power slots on the mobo compromised by noise
as much as possible use external power

theres a big selection on ebay that was just the first one i got when i did the search
the ribbon cables are dubious rfi/emi wise so just keep in mind
id strongly recommend the use of the larger lifepo4
there is a difference
as far as the cpu is concerned the large capacitance could go a long way
if i recommended smaller ones in the past it was for the 12v pack on the 24pin as there's very little current draw

wow
thats extreme
cant see many jcat usb card clients doing that
pearse did a ribbon cable 3.3v injection for the jcat usb card
if i remember right there was a tutorial could be over on jplay
load up the pics :)
