I've read good things about this version Fergus, but it's not cheap, these days... what's your take?

It is a period performance Jared but irrespective of that fact it is a wonderful performance in a work that I do still have a little difficulty with. This version is not as laboured as others that I have heard.

Whilst I have no issues with the Beethoven VC (it's a certaified masterpiece in every way!), I have been very much enjoying the Janine Jansen version, and would recommend it... partly because she is supported by smaller forces than usual, in Parvo Jaavi's Kammerphilharmonie Bremmen.

For me, the Beethoven VC however is a classic example of that which Sean often cites for Mahler... if you start off with the wrong (for you) performances, it stunt your appreciation of a piece quite seriously... that's what initially happened to me with the VC, and it wasn't until I bought the splended Grumiaux version, that I starting seeing the light...

I hope Fergus is sufficently proud that I'm playing some delightful Bach Cantatas, to overlook the fact they are meant to be for Advent, and not Easter... ;-)

Delighted indeed and there is no wrong time to play JSB, but are you not supposed to be.....working very hard or something. Don't give me that rubbish that you are on a break or something!!
