nige2000 wrote:tried 100000 version and avx v7
100000 looses weight and gains resolution over v7
ive been lowering the clock rate in the pro audio settings im at 448 and get it difficult to tell difference less than that
i like the 100000 period but id like some of the weight back in it
raising the clock rate does this but at the expense of detail
anyone else try it?
in my view 100000 is running more loops that v7 so has more hf artifacts adding to the noise, v7 = 4096 bytes so could try 2048 to see if my theory about page alignment holds up.

I don't find AVX2 V7 to be light on 24/192, in fact listening to a 24/192 version of Cassandra Wilson's New Moon Daughter I thought her voice had additional depth, anyway we won't fall out over that .

That album is exceptional even at 16/44, I can imagine how it sounds at 24/192...must have it!
"Strange Fruit" makes you like you are sitting in the recording studio.

It's a great album and I've owned it for years. I've played the Hirez version on other players but only the new MQN versions really release the detail and life in the recording. There's stuff in there I've never heard before until now.

Did you get it from HDtrack, or somewhere else, I see they have 24/192?

No I meant 100000 period version is light
I think there's something in the smaller periods that show more detail or resolution
But the lack of weight in this one is quite off putting

Nige, I was replying to sbgk 's post on bottom of page 222. I think the avx2 v7 version is exceptional.
Cvrle59, yes it came originally from HDTracks.

interesting reply from jplay regarding my question about avx2
Your question has an underlying assumption that copying is unavoidable which is true for WASAPI and ASIO but not necessarily for KS :)
More CPU-compatible 128bit SIMD is used in both driver & mini but have to say difference from not using it was not exactly earth-shattering – perhaps because of the above :)
another reason to explore ks

I'm not convinced their own standards are as high as ours, hence they veered off course a bit.
simd is term for sse2 etc
