The highlight of this CD for me is, without doubt, the very powerful performance of Bloch’s Schelomo.

Do try these two works [Musical Entertainments] for a bit of musical fun, in particular the Festino nella sera del giovedi grasso avanti cena….

The music is delightful and enchanting and the playing is expressive and atmospheric.

Just in from a recital given by Monica Huggett, have a plate of cheese and black olives, a bottle of French red to wash it down and it just seems appropriate to play this new purchase featuring Huggett....

Yes it was very pleasant Simon. Huggett and her chamber ensemble [seven instrumentalists in total] gave a delightful recital of 17th century Baroque repertoire. The Beethoven violin concerto above was also very good. Her interpretation and playing led to it having a slightly different "feel" to it which was interesting and I was particularly impressed with what Mackerras and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment brought to proceedings.

Trying this again, it appeals much more to me today for some reason. Might be the spring weather to match the Spring Symphony.
